Move Child SmartPins with Parent SmartPin
There are two new configuration settings when a type of SmartPin is defined. The first setting is to move the children of a SmartPin when the parent SmartPin instance is moved. As we branch out into customers in other new businesses, some customers would like to have a parent SmartPin with many children underneath. And when you move the parent SmartPin, the children automatically move along with it so that the address and location of the parent and children SmartPins are always the same.
Below is a screenshot of the SmartPin definition configuration screen. Notice the new ‘Move Children with Parent’ checkbox. When that is checked, moving the parent will automatically move any children. By default, that setting is not checked for existing SmartPin definitions and is not checked for new SmartPin definitions.
As a refresher, children are sometimes referred to as Tasks. In the Customer Settings page, this label is configurable. The screenshot below displays changing the Task Label default to be Children.
Here you can see a MoveProject created for Santa way up north in Canada. There are 3 children for the MoveProject: a MoveFurniture, a MovePainting, and a MoveSeasonal SmartPin.
And here we choose to Relocate/Resize the MoveProject Pin to Brooklyn NY.
And here you can see the pins have all been moved to Brooklyn NY. Note that all of the addresses on all of the pins are the same.
Hide Child SmartPins
Looking at the screenshot above, you can see that showing the children of a SmartPin on a map is not always the most useful feature, since it always appears as a cluster if the pins are in the same location.
Hence the second feature on our SmartPin definition screen: the ability to hide the children of a SmartPin.
In the screenshot above, you can see that the Hide Children on Map setting is now enabled for the MoveProject SmartPin. Once saved, when you return to the map, the children are hidden and the parent is no longer in a cluster.
To access the children, the SmartPin details of the Parent must be opened. The children will be displayed on the second tab, labeled with the Customer Setting for Tasks Label.
Move Pin by Address
Above we also hinted at our third new feature for this week. When you choose to Relocate/Resize a SmartPin, a new dialog box appears. In this dialog box, you can enter the address you wish to move the SmartPin to. We will reverse geocode the address to a latitude and longitude and move the SmartPin there when you hit OK. You can choose to leave the SmartPin address as the current address, or update to the new address by checking the checkbox in the new dialog. Today, this feature is only available on the portal, not on the mobile apps.
Fixed In This Release
Printing Media Attributes for SmartPin
As you know, you can print the details of a SmartPin from the portal while viewing the SmartPin details. But we forgot to add the media attributes to the printout when we deployed Media Attributes a couple of weeks ago. We fixed that. Now when you print the SmartPin details for a SmartPin with Media Attributes, thumbnails of the attributes will be printed just like you see on the SmartPin details screen.
